City notes growth of registered vehicles and sees need for … rail

The City of Austin Transportation Department, which periodically puts out an online newsletter called Austin Mobility News, last week led it with an item headlined “Travis County registered vehicles leap by almost half.” It went on to say, based on data from the Travis County tax assessor-collector’s office, that between 2002 and 2012, the number of registered vehicles in Travis County increased 47 percent, from 644,000 to 945,000 vehicles.
