In November 2014, Texas voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition 1, a Constitutional Amendment authorizing annual disbursements from the state’s oil and gas production tax collections to the State Highway Fund. Prop. 1 has provided a significant step toward meeting the unmet funding needs for transportation and infrastructure projects across Texas.

In November 2015, Texas voters passed Proposition 7, which further helps to alleviate the inadequate funding for Texas roads and infrastructure. Prop. 7 fills a void left by Prop. 1 by dedicating an additional $2.5 billion from the state sales tax along with additional funding from state motor vehicles sales and rental taxes to the State Highway Fund, improving roads and highways in Texas, providing funding for non-tolled roads, and the reduction of certain transportation-related debt.
Prop. 7 funding will begin in the 2018-2019 fiscal year.
